Enrolling

Dear Prospective Parents

The procedure for enrolling your daughter in Willoughby Girls High School is explained below. The expression of interest form is a PDF (12 KB) which you should print, fill out and send to WGHS.

  • If you wish to enrol your daughter in Year 7 at WGHS and she attends a public primary school, you should indicate WGHS as your first choice on the Department of Education high school expression of interest form issued to Year 6 parents in March. Late applicants may be placed on a waiting list.
  • If your daughter attends Year 6 in a private school, you will need to fill in the WGHS expression of interest form (PDF 12 KB) and forward to WGHS by the end of March. Late applicants may be placed on a waiting list.
  • While there have been waiting lists in past years, nearly all those who applied for Year 7 have been eventually offered a place, either towards the end of the year of application or in the first week or so of the year of enrolment.
  • All applicants for Years 8 to 12 need to complete the expression of interest form (PDF 12 KB), which can be forwarded to the school at any time for consideration.
  • As WGHS is a government single sex school in the Northern Sydney Region, enrolment is contingent on places being available. This is different from a government local co-educational high school where enrolment is an entitlement for students residing in the designated intake area.
  • The main criterion for enrolment at WGHS is residential proximity. Suburbs are listed in priority order according to their distance from the school, which is defined as a straight line point to point from WGHS to the nearest point on the suburb boundary. See Residential Proximity table (PDF 9 KB). Suburbs and distances have been prepared by the Surveyor-General's Department of NSW. Students with a sibling currently attending the school receive priority placement provided that this information is made known to the school prior to offers.
  • WGHS operates its own extension class for selected students in Year 7. Year 6 students are invited to sit the placement test in the year prior to actual enrolment, usually a Saturday mid-March. Details are provided to all feeder primary schools and are advertised in the local papers. More information is available from the school.
  • At times, places are available for international students. For more information, please contact the Department of Education and Training International Student Centre at www.schools.nsw.edu.au/gotoschool/intnl_students.

I look forward to your application. Please also refer to the schedule of payments (PDF 27 KB).
