House Captains are student leaders for each House and have responsibility for engaging students in sports and physical activities and raising school spirit. It is expected that their conduct, attendance and engagement will be worthy examples for all to follow. The House Captains lead their house at Swimming, Cross Country and Athletics Carnivals and are expected to encourage participation and involvement. House Captains are also involved in raising school spirit and a sense of engagement in the school through other activities during the year. House captains are elected each year (from Year 10) by their peers.
Prefects are the most senior student leaders in the school. The Prefects are role models for all students and their conduct, attendance and application are worthy examples for all to follow. The Prefect Team is led by the School Captain. She is aided in this role by the Vice Captain and the Senior Prefect. The Principal guides, assists and monitors the team in the implementation of their activities.
Prefects are responsible for leading certain projects in the interests of school improvement and their own personal development. They have opportunities to attend student leadership receptions at NSW Parliament, ANZAC Day ceremonies across the community, and represent the school at other community events. In addition, Prefects are required to assist with special events and communications within the school and are responsible for organising Year 12 matters. Prefects are elected by their peers and staff during Term 3 and take up their office as of the beginning of Term 4.
The Student Representative Council (SRC) is a student run group, which acts in the best interests of all students at Willoughby Girls High School. Each year in September, up to five students from each year are elected by their peers to represent them. The executive of the SRC consists of the President, the Treasurer and the Secretary. The SRC organises events, such as a mufti day to raise funds for charity. Each year group is also responsible for fundraising for a worthy charity. The SRC liaises between the students and staff, particularly the Principal and works closely with the Prefects. The school SRC is also represented at district level, an experience which the students find rewarding.
Recently the SRC has supported the Salvation Army (Christmas drive); cup cake stalls for Room to Read and CARE Australia; School for Life (Mother's Day stall); Share the Dignity (sanitary items for homeless women); Youth off the Streets (shoelaces for homeless youth).
